Frequently Asked Questions

What is radiofrequency with microneedling ?

Radiofrequency with microneedling produces intense heating in the dermis or hypodermis without damaging the epidermis. In the dermis, heat can stimulate the fibroblasts, the skin cells, to produce more collagen to strengthen the skin. This principle of “neo-collagenesis” is essential in the fight against skin aging and sagging. In the hypodermis, the heat of the radiofrequency affects the adipocytes, the fat cells, to make cellulite less visible.

What happens during a session ?

Radiofrequency with microneedling creates a feeling of intense heat. A numbing cream is applied before the treatment to limit the discomfort of the fine needles. The duration of a session depends on the treatment area. On average, a treatment session lasts 20 to 45 minutes. After a session, a slight redness is visible for several hours to several days.

What is fractional radiofrequency ?

Fractional radiofrequency aims to gradually renew the skin surface to fade wrinkles, pigmentation spots, enlarged pores, scars or stretch marks. This is the principle of skin rejuvenation or “resurfacing”. The heat emitted by radiofrequency is capable to cause small lesions on the skin surface or epidermis. These lesions initiate a regenerative response of the skin and as skin recovers, a new skin with a better quality appears. The term “fractional” means that the injured skin surface is limited in each session and that a large part of the skin remains intact in order to shorten the healing time and reduce the risk of inappropriate wound healing.

What happens during a session ?

Fractional radiofrequency creates small lesions or burns the size of a pinhead on the skin surface. The treatment causes a burning sensation and can be painful. A numbing cream is usually applied before treatment but is not always necessary. The duration of a session depends on the treatment area. On average, a treatment session lasts 15 to 60 minutes. After a session, the skin is red and slightly swollen. Small scabs develop during the healing process of the skin and after a week the skin is fully recovered.

What is the duration of treatment and result ?

Each session has a stimulating or regenerating action on the skin, but a significant improvement is only visible when the effect of several sessions is cumulated. For radiofrequency with microneedling, 2 to 4 sessions are usually recommended with an interval of 4 to 6 weeks between sessions. Fractional radiofrequency requires 4 to 6 sessions with an interval of 4 to 6 weeks between the sessions. In order to maintain stimulation, a maintenance session is sometimes recommended every 3 to 6 months, depending on the needs.

Is it dangerous ?

Radiofrequency is not dangerous to health. However, there are some contraindications to this treatment : the presence of a pacemaker, or other metal or electronic device, a history of melanoma or abnormal scarring and the use of certain medication. Radiofrequency also requires accurate settings of the device to avoid the risk of burns, pigmentation disorders or scars.

Is the result natural ?

The results are completely natural because radiofrequency acts on skin quality : the face does not change, but the skin quality is visibly improving.

Which device is used ?

The treatments are performed using the medical device Secret RF or Viora.
